This post is for you.
We are across the fact that anything we eat ends up inside our body & can do damage or provide nourishment. Same goes for the things we apply topically to our skin, deodorant, shampoo, moisturizer, make-up, shaving cream etc. Have you ever thought about the the things we put in/on one of the most sensitive areas of our body? Yep, that’s where I am taking you. Tampons, pads, ‘lady products’.
Wait! Men, don’t flee yet. I promise this won’t get gory or awkward! I am sure there is a woman in your life you care about. Your mum, sister, daughter, girlfriend. Stick with me for her sake. You might learn something too.
So you go to the supermarket & you grab a package off the shelf and toss it in your shopping basket. It might be the one on special, it might be the brand you have just always used, it might be the one with the prettiest packaging. Even though I ALWAYS took at the ingredients labels in my food, skincare & laundry products, I have NEVER looked at what is in my ‘lady products’.
Conventional cotton is one of the most heavily pesticide sprayed crops in the world not to mention often genetically modified. Synthetics, plastics, toxic loaded cotton, bleach, parabens, perfumes, dioxins & petrochemicals are just a few of the things that are likely to be in your female hygiene products. One article I read said that one sanitary pad can contain the equivalent plastic of 4 plastic bags! You can read it HERE.
Now that is the problem. What is the solution? Be aware that ‘natural’ on a label doesn’t mean much. It’s a gimmicky marketing buzz word. Look for certified organic products like TOM Organic that provides safe products for your Time Of Month (TOM- clever isn’t it!). These products might be marginally more expensive but when you consider that the average woman uses 12,000 tampons in her lifetime, it is worthwhile making a better choice & investing what is likely to be an extra $12-$15/year. I’d say that is a pretty sound investment to reducing your toxic load.
Men, thanks for kicking on & getting to the end of this. Make sure that if the lady in your life sends you to get ‘lady products’ you look for the certified organic brands. Ladies, hopefully this has given you some food for thought. If you want to know more there is a great podcast on The Wellness Guys with the founder of TOM Organics HERE.

Agree entirely Shan! This is important stuff that most ladies don’t know / talk about. TOM is a great brand and happily there are more and more becoming available, which means greater choice and affordability. It also normalises the use of less-toxic and non-toxic products, which can only be a good thing!
